"Dekavallas opened his concert with an assured performance of Giuliani's Grande Overture, Op.19"
"A winner of 12 prizes in international competitions, Dimitris Dekavallas, with the quality of playing evident at this concert .....can look forward to a further success as a concert artist on the International scene."
“I think they liked you”, words from our Chairman after the rapturous applause at the end of a stunning performance by Dimitrios Dekavallas on 18th November. They did indeed and it was a pleasure to see a full hall packed with such an appreciative audience. Along with our faithful followers we saw many new faces, who I hope will now become regular DGS concert goers. Dimitrios is the eighth winner of the prestigious ‘Ivor Mairants guitar award’, which was inaugurated in 1998. The standard of playing for a competition of this order is second to none and Dimitrios is a well deserving winner. I know that he doesn’t think that there is such a word as ‘talented’ and that it is all down to hard work - well all I can say is that he has worked very, very hard indeed. Dimitrios filled the hall with the huge volume of sound that he produced on the Smallman guitar, which he had borrowed.A guitar of course doesn’t sound good on its own, it takes a nimble, skilful pair of hands to make it work, and artistry to make it sing! Dimitrios has all those things and I think that we will be hearing a lot more from him in the future.
Dimitris performed an extraordinary concert on a carbon-fibre guitar once owned by John Williams.
The young guitarist from Athens Greece gave a masterly performance. The sound was crystal clear with wonderful variation of tone. It was like hearing the pieces for the first time. Well done Dimitris!
