Framed by favourite composers of two British queens, this programme sheds light on the rich dialogues between important Austro-German composers and British musical life.Johann Christian Bach, who settled in London and worked as Master of Music for Queen Charlotte, met the eight-year-old Mozart in London in 1764 and became one of the most important influences on Mozart’s musical style.Felix Mendelssohn was Queen Victoria’s favourite composer. He visited London frequently and became an important figure in British musical life, later extending to Birmingham and Scotland. The queen’s consort Prince Albert was a committed and prolific composer himself, and for this programme two of Albert’s songs are arranged by the Linos Piano Trio and juxtaposed with Mendelssohn’s great D minor trio, exposing their remarkable shared musical aesthetic.
