Arrangements by Saint-Saëns of Chopin and Liszt

Parnassius (Hiroaki Takenouchi and Simon Callaghan) recently visited Wyastone Estate to record arrangements by Saint-Saëns of sonatas by Chopin and Liszt.

The resulting CD, to be released on Lyrita in 2020, will comprise:

Chopin Sonata no. 2 in B flat minor, op. 35 (arr. Saint-Saëns for two pianos)
Liszt Sonata in B minor (arr. Saint-Saëns for two pianos)

Callaghan comments:

“I think I had underestimated Saint-Saëns’ genius: his arrangements are wonderful, and offer the insight of a true musician into these masterpieces.”

Parnassius – Simon Callaghan and Hiroaki Takenouchi – return to Wyastone in November, this time to record one of their own arrangements for two pianos: Rachmaninov’s Symphony no. 2 in E minor, op. 27.  In the video below you can watch their live performance of the gorgeous Adagio.
