Ferio at the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts

The Ferio Saxophone Quartet members arrived in Bermuda last night, having safely navigated their way through cancelled flights and a storm on arrival! They have been given a wonderfully warm welcome by the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts and spent this morning doing outreach work with some local young saxophone players. The end product will be a performance of Nigel Wood’s arrangement of the Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565. It should sound fantastic, played by 7 saxophones!

Here they are, at their very first run-through earlier today:

Ferio are performing at the Earl Cameron Theatre in Hamilton on Tuesday and Wednesday evening and their programme will be filmed for television. We will post some of the footage both on this website and on Ferio’s own website in due course! They will perform:

Bach Fugue in G Minor BWV 578, arr. Iain Farrington
Françaix Petit Quatuor pour saxophones
Grieg Air from Holberg Suite, Op. 40, arr. Ferio
Bach Italian Concerto BWV 971, arr. Katsuki Tochio (I and III) and Ferio (II)
Gregory Hoe down
Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, arr. Nigel Wood (when three local students join them on stage)
Reinhart Adagio (III) and Presto (IV) from Quartet in F minor for Saxophone Quartet
Lago With ships the sea was sprinkled, from The Wordsworth Poems
Lago Three Movements from Ciudades – Montevideo (Uraguay), Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)

Each concert’s audience will get an exciting preview of Ferio’s new recording. The CD, which the Chandos Records team recorded last month, comes out in November and includes Iain Farrington’s brilliant arrangement of the Bach Fugue in G Minor BWV 578; Bach’s Italian Concerto BWV 971, arr. Katsuki Tochio (movements I and III) and Ferio (II) will also appear on the disc. Ferio are also really looking forward to sharing the stage with three local young saxophonists to perform the Bach Toccata and Fugue  BWV 565 together.

Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts runs from mid-January to mid-March annually, presenting a diverse range of performing arts events.  Outreach is a major focus, providing the community with access to world-class artists.
