The Gould Piano Trio and Robert Plane look forward to visiting the Stoller Hall in Manchester next month. Their concert on 22nd January will feature works for Piano Trio by Beamish and Shostakovich and music for Clarinet and Electronics by Boulez, while the full ensemble will perform Huw Watkins’s ‘Four Fables’, written for the group and given its world premiere at the Three Choirs Festival in July of this year.
Four Fables was commissioned by the Three Choirs Festival, Corbridge Chamber Music Festival, Swansea International Festival and Wigmore Hall, with financial assistance from RVW Trust and PRS Open Fund, and makes a very welcome addition to the Piano Trio and Clarinet repertoire. This concert, demonstrating the breadth of the ensemble’s talents with works dating from 1944 to the present day, will also be the North West premiere of Watkins’s new work.
Huw Watkins will be speaking in the pre-concert talk, alongside presenter, music educator and horn-tutor at Chetham’s, Tom Redmond, who will succeed Stephen Threlfall as Director of Music at Chethams’s School of Music from September 2019.
