New York Launch of Under Milk Wood: an opera

Karina travels to New York later this month, to launch the studio recording of  “Under Milk Wood: an opera”, which was recorded in Cardiff, Wales during the world premiere tour in 2014. Companion Star and Tŷ Cerdd Records host the reception at the Opera America building, and the evening will feature performances by artists from the original production. Karina performs the role of Rosie Probert and will sing her duet with Captain Cat during the evening.

Some of the press about the production itself:

“WHISPER it, but John Metcalf might have achieved the seemingly impossible. With Under Milk Wood: An Opera, the Swansea-born composer has taken Dylan Thomas’s untouchable play for voices and, by setting it to a soundtrack of such expressive beauty, might – just might – have made it… better.”
The South Wales Evening Post

“a comic opera whose splendidly daffy elements are juxtaposed with moments of reflection and genuine poignancy”
The Western Mail

“Milkwood swings as Captain Cat Steals the show”
The Guardian

“…an operatic testimony for Dylan Thomas”
The Telegraph

Metcalf: Under Milk Wood: Taliesin Arts Centre (Swansea), Le Chien qui Chante (Montreal) and Companion Star (NY) in association with Welsh National Opera. Supported by the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Government. Part of the Dylan Thomas 100 Festival.
