Opportunities to hear the New Oxford Consort

The New Oxford Consort’s next concerts, on 28th November and 1st December, provide a great chance to hear the group who recently launched a collaboration with Tashmina Artist Louise Thomson (harp).

Louise and the New Oxford Consort are offering an enticing programme of music for upper voices and harp, entitled “Eastern Pictures”, featuring in particular the music of Gustav and Imogen Holst. Their programme showcases the broad range of excellent music that is available to the combination of upper-voice choir and harp, with works including Gustav Holst’s ‘Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda’.

You can hear the New Oxford Consort at one of their forthcoming Christmas concerts:

Thursday 28th November, 8:00 pm | Merton College Chapel, Oxford
Sunday 1st December, 3:00 pm | Borough Theatre, Abergavenny

For these concerts the group will perform as a mixed voices octet with a festive programme spanning eight centuries of musical output. Both concerts will feature a selection of classic carols as well as lesser-known music, with works by composers including Victoria, Praetorius, Pearsall, Warlock, Howells, Chilcott and Britten.

They very much look forward to being part of the series at Abergavenny’s Borough Theatre, as well as to performing in the wonderful and famous acoustic of Merton College Chapel, Oxford.

The New Oxford Consort is an exciting young vocal ensemble, performing a wide variety of music across different styles and periods, under the direction of its founder, Freddie Crowley, a recent graduate of Merton College, Oxford. The group draws its singers from a pool of young professionals in the early stages of their singing careers, including alumni choral scholars of Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Royal Holloway and Manchester universities, as well as London conservatoires.
