Rachel Roberts plays Skempton at Leamington Music Festival

On Sunday 5th May Rachel Roberts will perform as part of a stellar line-up at the Leamington Music Festival. The concert will feature works by British composer Howard Skempton, with baritone soloist Roderick Williams and Ensemble 360.

Rachel will form part of a string quintet alongside Benjamin Nabarro, Claudia Ajmone-Marsan, Gemma Rosefield and Elena Hull, also joined by horn player James Pillai and pianist Tim Horton.

The group will perform two of Skempton’s more recent compositions, both written in the last four years. His setting of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner was premiered in 2015 by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and Roderick Williams, who went on to join forces with Ensemble 360 for performances in Sheffield, at Wigmore Hall and at the 2017 Leamington Music Festival. Skempton’s setting of the D. H. Lawrence poem Man and Bat was first performed by Roderick and Ensemble 360 in Sheffield in July 2017.

The concert will take place at 7.30pm in the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington, and tickets are available here.
