Rowland to perform Lindberg Violin Concerto in Finland

Following several highly successful appearances with the City of Joensuu Orchestra over recent years, performing concerto no. 2 by Philip Glass, and the Vivaldi/Piazzolla “Eight Seasons” with conductor Arie van Beek, the orchestra has invited him to return – this time to perform Lindberg’s Violin Concerto no. 1. He has just arrived there for rehearsals, and the concert takes place on Thursday evening. The conductor is Jurjen Hempel.

Rowland says:

“I’m really happy to be performing for the first time Magnus Lindberg’s exciting, brilliant and powerful Violin Concerto. It’s a piece full of virtuosity, vivid colours and imagination, drawing at times on the sound world of Sibelius in a very striking way. It’s also great to be returning to the lovely orchestra Joensuu again, this time very snowy and a crisp -20°C ! “
